Remembering the Important Things

The children of God tend to remember the wrong things.

We forget His faithfulness and focus on things that do not matter. Truth and principle can be neglected over time.

Beware, lest you forget what the Lord has done.

The Shema is found in Deuteronomy 6:4-9, “Hear, Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. And you shall repeat them diligently to your sons and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up. You shall also tie them as a sign to your hand, and they shall be as frontlets on your forehead. You shall also write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

The Shema is a declaration to listen and obey as well as love with a full-hearted devotion.

Three Major Priorities of a Life in Pursuit of Wholeness

  1. Wholeness comes when I love God personally.

“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”

This has been called the cornerstone of Judaism. This is embedded into the fabric of every Jewish person. Jesus says that this verse is the most important command.

This is the greatest commandment, the secret to ensuring that you never forget. What this means is that the greatest priority for anyone is to love their God with all their heart, soul, and strength.

This is the first essential to living a life of wholeness, to love God.

Remember, you demonstrate your love for Him by obeying Him. This is the secret to an abundant life.

The love of God is not a casual thing. It is not some incidental deal. This is the driving factor, an all-encompassing, supreme love of your life.

Love Him with all your heart, soul, and strength!

  1. Grow in your Wisdom in Scripture

Verse 6 says, “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.”

Grow on the first command to love God.

What word is he talking about? They encompass all the truths that God has revealed so far. Moses is helping the nation of Israel the truths that God had given to Israel in the Pentateuch.

Your relationship with the Lord will never be greater than your time in the Word.

What are you doing to show others the importance of the Word of God?

Every time we leave the blueprint of the Creator, we create brokenness that spreads like gangrene. His way is the best way.

  1. Pass the Truth onto Others

Verse 7, “And you shall repeat them diligently to your sons and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.”

Use all your day as teaching moments, redeem time.

Verse 8, “You shall also tie them as a sign to your hand, and they shall be as frontlets on your forehead. You shall also write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

The idea is to surround your life with reminders so you can pass the truth on. Love God, store up the Word in your heart, pass it on.

Step into what you were born to do. Live for Him!

Know this, He will help you every step of the way.
